There are thousands of online dating sites that provide potential matching partners based on specific requirements. But, unfortunately, some predators prowl legitimate dating sites for victims to scam.

Modus operandi
  • The scammer creates fake profiles with stolen photographs on dating sites.
  • The scammer contacts the victim, establishes a strong bond and declares love for the victim.
  • Towards the end of this stage, the scammer asks for gifts (i.e. perfume, mobile phone) to ‘test the waters’.
  • Then this will lead to requests for small amounts of money.
What you should do?
  • Always be vigilant on dating websites.
  • Do not transfer money or give gifts to a person that you haven’t met in person.
