Job scam is a fraudulent scheme in which scammers deceive individuals by offering fake job opportunities. The goal is often to steal money, gather personal information, or trick victims into participating in illegal activities.

Modus operandi
  • Scammers post false job offers on job sites or social media, often targeting people needing work.

  • The job promises high pay, easy work, and no experience needed, making it sound unrealistic.
  • Victims are asked to pay fees for training, work permits, or processing before they can start the job. Once the money is paid, the scammer disappears.
  • Scammers ask for personal details, like bank info or ID numbers, supposedly to process your application. This information is used for identity theft.
  • Some scammers trick people into transferring money or participating in illegal money laundering schemes under the guise of a job.
What you should do?
  • Always check the company’s official website and look for reviews to ensure it’s legitimate.
  • If the job sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Confirm the offer through official sources.
  • A real employer will never ask you to pay for training or equipment before you start.
  • Only share personal details once you’re sure the job is real.
  • If you didn’t apply for a job but received an offer, be cautious - it might be a scam.
  • Legitimate companies use professional emails, not personal ones like Gmail.
  • If the job description is vague or the employer avoids answering your questions, it’s a warning sign.
